RECYCLED CITY,
Wall One

Harry Anderson and Smokie Kittner took their cue from the area of Philadelphia between Broad Street and the Delaware River to create wall one of RECYCLED CITY.  This area includes the cities historic district as well a other iconic buuildings from the citys past.

In front of Independence Hall, Nipper, the RCA dog, looks east from a plaza made of aluminum can lids. In the center of the plaza a cookie cutter bell stands in for the liberty bell. A school bus drives past the First Bank whose columns are spools of thread and roof line, pencils.

At the opposite end of Wall One sits Philadelphia’s City Hall, this wonderful wedding cake of a city hall, is made from zippers, paper clips, a pocket watch, broach, twist ties, pencils, screws, ironing plate and buttons to name a few of the found objects used to create it. It sits upon a ”Monopoly Board Plaza” where there is an implication of tax return.

To the right of the First Bank sits Lits Brother, the columns are of left over decorative elements from a wedding cake, the large element on the left incorporates Benjamin Franklin's Almanac. Above the Lit's building, the ARA tower is made of knifes, a reflector and an old place mat. To the right of Lits sits the Reading Railroad Train Shed above which sits PSFS building, one of Philadelphia’s most important modernist buildings. Toy trains and tracks and blocks are used here for the Reading Railroad. To the right are the PNC building and Wanamakers, where Wanamakers is represented by tiered rug samples and a postcard of the Wanamaker’s Eagle.
